RIGHT TO KNOW: Report: Federal agencies lagging in Freedom of
Information Act performance

The Fourth of July is more than just the nation's birthday. It's also
the birthday of the United States Freedom of Information Act.

According to a report prepared by the Coalition of Journalists for
Open Government, the last two years weren't much to celebrate.

The CJOG study looked at 25 departments and agencies that handle the
bulk of the third-party information requests. According to the report,
titled "An Opportunity Lost," federal departments and agencies "have
made little if any progress in responding to Freedom of Information
Act requests, despite a two-year-old presidential order to improve
service."
