CANBERRA bureaucrats are fighting plans to reform Australia's Freedom of Information laws due to be discussed by Cabinet.
It is understood Special Minister of State John Faulkner is due to take a submission to Cabinet outlining his plans for a new Freedom of Information Act that the Government wants introduced to Parliament in the spring sessions.
But senior public service departments are resisting the central move to remove ministerial discretion to block the release of documents, arguing that it could threaten the Cabinet system of government and even weaken intelligence ties with foreign powers.
