What Events Are Planned for Right To Know Week In BC?
Right to Know Week Quiz: Test your knowledge about your right to access public records and win an iPod Touch! The Right to Know Week challenge can be found on the homepage of the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (“OIPC”) website beginning the week of September 27, 2010.
September 27 to October 1, 2010: The Provincial Government and various municipalities in BC will be issuing proclamations to show their commitment to the principles of Right to Know Week.
September 27, 2010 and September 29, 2010: Presentations to the University of Victoria Masters of Public Administration program about the right to access information and the importance of the freedom of information process in a democratic society. Presentations by Troy Taillefer and Caitlin Lemiski (Portfolio Officers from the OIPC).
September 29, 2010: BC Information Summit 2010 at the UBC Robson Square Theatre in Vancouver. The third BC Information Summit brings together legal experts, journalists, academics, present and past elected officials and experienced freedom of information and privacy experts. Together, they will explore the challenges of creating transparent government and protecting privacy in an increasingly turbulent and complex information environment. Presented by the BC Freedom of Information & Privacy Association and the Canadian Taxpayers Federation. Keynote speaker will be Elizabeth Denham (Information and Privacy Commissioner for BC). http://infosummit.ca/
September 29, 2010: Presentation to the Rehabilitation Professionals of Victoria about access to and handling of health records as well as the role of the OIPC. Presentation by Trevor Presley and Tina Doehnel (Portfolio Officers from the OIPC).
September 30, 2010: Public forum at the Victoria Public Library (Main Branch - Central Meeting Room) will take place from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm. An interactive panel discussion about the challenges people face when attempting to access government and public body records. The Canadian Association of Professional Access and Privacy Administrators (CAPAPA) is sponsoring this event.. The panel will include Elizabeth Denham (Information and Privacy Commissioner for BC), Sean Holman (Editor of Public Eye Online) and Paul Hancock (City of Vancouver) and will be moderated by Bill Trott (University of Victoria)
October 1, 2010: Presentation to the Canadian Association of Professional Access and Privacy Administrators (CAPAPA) in Burnaby, on recent orders from the OIPC and new developments in Freedom of Information that would be of interest to FOI Coordinators.
