Development authority consultation sessions planned
Development authority consultation sessions planned THE VANGUARD NovaNewsNow.com The South West Shore Development Authority's annual community consultation sessions are coming up, with three events planned over two weekends, including a Yarmouth session on the morning of Saturday, Jan. 19. That same day an afternoon session is scheduled for 1:30 to 4:30 at the Clare Social Club in Little Brook. The Yarmouth and Clare sessions will take place a week after the 2008 consultation series is scheduled to begin with a Jan. 12 session at the Barrington Lions Club, this one set for 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The annual consultation process gives the development authority a chance to hear what people have to say regarding what they feel are important issues to be addressed or projects to be pursued. The public sessions help the authority draw up a priority list for the coming year. Last winter's Yarmouth meeting drew about 90 people. "It's usually around anywhere between 90 and 100," said the development authority's Dave Warner, referring to the Yarmouth session. "It's a fairly large one and it's quite a diverse group." The turnout for the 2007 session in Clare was close to 40 or so and it was a similar number in Shelburne, he said. Warner – who will serve as facilitator for the Jan. 12 meeting in Barrington and the following Saturday's gathering in Yarmouth – sees familiar faces at the sessions each year, although he notes that there tend to be new people too. "There are people that are always interested because they feel that's their opportunity to have their input," he said. "Every year we get a few different ones. We always say if you can't come, please send a representative from your group or your area of interest and sometimes that's what happens." Those who would like to attend a session are asked to register in advance by contacting the development authority.
