Just weeks after the abrupt - and still largely unexplained -- exit of Canada's very first Public Sector Integrity Commissioner, Auditor General Sheila Fraser is set to release the results of her special investigation into the inner workings of the now vacant office. Depending on what the report reveals, Fraser's investigation could turn out to be at least a little bit troublesome for the government; it was, after all, Canada's then-New Government that created the post in the first place.
Touted as "a safe and confidential mechanism enabling public servants and the general public to disclose wrongdoings committed in the public sector," in the three years since the office was established, the now-departed commissioner failed to make a single finding of wrongdoing, which may or may not have had something to do with the departure of 18 out of 22 employees in less than a year, according to a complaint filed by one former staffer. Given all that, it's not difficult to see why the AG would have been moved to launch a probe of the office -- but how will the government respond to her findings? Tune in later today to find out.
